Home Qurbani Etiquette: What to Keep in Mind
If you’re performing Qurbani at home, a few simple courtesies make it easier for everyone around you.
Before performing Qurbani at home, it’s worth thinking about your neighbours — not everyone around you may be marking the occasion the same way, and a little consideration goes a long way. Afterwards, the area should be cleaned and washed thoroughly, including wherever the animal was kept beforehand.
Once the Qurbani is complete, the meat is traditionally divided into three parts: one for your own household, one for relatives, and one for those in need. If you’d prefer, all three parts can also be given away to the poor and needy instead.
When home Qurbani isn’t possible
Not everyone is able to perform Qurbani at home — space, circumstances or personal constraints can make it difficult. In such cases, people often ask someone else to perform the Qurbani on their behalf instead. It’s worth keeping in mind that this usually means you won’t get to eat the meat of your own Qurbani yourself, since it isn’t performed in front of you.
This is exactly the situation Qurbani Centre was built for. Instead of arranging everything yourself, you can donate your Qurbani through Qurbani Centre — it’s taken care of on your behalf, and you’re informed once it’s done.
